2 TAMS Integration

TAMS Integration

A leading broadcaster approached Elliott Media’s System Integration and Consultancy team with a forward-thinking goal: to upgrade its video infrastructure to support TAMS (Time Addressable Media Store) – an emerging, open HTTP API designed for storing, querying, and accessing segmented media content over HTTP.

TAMS is gaining widespread attention across the broadcast industry due to its cloud-native architecture, time-based segmentation capabilities, and open accessibility model, making it a potential future standard for media acquisition and distribution.

The client aimed to:

  • Enable its content to be available and compatible with TAMS-enabled systems.
  • Facilitate real-time video acquisition by partners and affiliates using TAMS.
  • Modernise its media infrastructure with scalability and future-proofing in mind.

To achieve this, the client needed an experienced integration partner capable of:

  • Assessing its current broadcast systems and workflows.
  • Bridging legacy infrastructure with cutting-edge, cloud-native technologies.
  • Delivering a custom solution in a collaborative and agile manner.
Elliott Media’s Solution

Elliott Media deployed its specialist broadcast integration team to deliver a full consultancy-to-execution engagement. The project followed an agile methodology and unfolded in four key phases:

  1. Technical Discovery & Requirements Analysis
  • Conducted detailed consultations with the client and key third-party content providers.
  • Performed a high-level systems audit to understand:

           ○    Existing live and archived video workflows
           ○    Ingest, encoding, and contribution systems
           ○    Metadata tagging and time-based indexing practices
           ○    Identified opportunities for TAMS integration with minimal disruption to live operations.

        2. Integration Strategy & Architecture Design

  • Developed a TAMS-compatible architecture tailored to the client’s needs:

           ○  Focused on API-driven modularity
           ○  Ensured compatibility with HTTP-based segmented video delivery
           ○  Designed to scale horizontally across cloud environments
           ○  Defined how live video content would be ingested, segmented, indexed, and exposed to acquisition partners via TAMS.
  1. Solution Development & Implementation
  • Engineered a software-driven interface layer that:
           ○ Connected the client’s live video dataset to hosted contribution services
           ○ Enabled real-time media segmentation and recording using the TAMS API
           ○ Leveraged LPX (Linked Payload Exchange) format to advertise content availability to downstream media organisations
           ○ Developed automation workflows for ingesting metadata and segment markers to improve content discoverability and accessibility.
  1. Testing, Validation & Stakeholder Enablement
  • Conducted a phased deployment in a sandbox environment, followed by production rollout.
  • Carried out performance and reliability testing under simulated load conditions.
  • Delivered documentation, training, and technical workshops to internal teams and content partners for seamless adoption.

Results & Business Impact:

Elliott Media’s integration enabled the client to become an early adopter of TAMS with a robust, cloud-native system embedded in their media infrastructure.

Key outcomes included:

  • Seamless TAMS Integration.

The client’s existing video infrastructure now supports the recording, querying, and retrieval of segmented media through the TAMS API, aligned with emerging industry standards.

  • Forward-Compatible Video Acquisition Strategy

By adopting TAMS and LPX, the client has positioned itself and its partners to benefit from more dynamic and interoperable content exchange workflows.

  • Improved Media Discoverability & Efficiency

TAMS’ time-based media segmentation has significantly enhanced how content is indexed, searched, and retrieved—reducing turnaround times for production and syndication.

  • Scalability & High Availability

Thanks to the cloud-native architecture, the system is resilient, scalable, and ready to support increasing content volumes and simultaneous partner access.
